The Surrounding Area.

BOAVISTA GOLF RESORT,  is ideally situated approximately 45 minutes from Faro Airport on the coast between the historic old walled town of LAGOS and the beautiful beach resort of PRAIA DA LUZ both of which are under a five minute drive from the apartment.

The challenging par 71 championship course hosts the annual Henry Cooper Golf Classic event and also features a superb Golf Academy, driving range, 2 floodlit tennis courts, five-a-side football pitch and a safe children’s play area.   Across the road is a large heated swimming pool and children’s pool offering bar snacks, luxurious changing/locker rooms, complete with showers and w.c.  facilities.
The CLUBHOUSE BAR AND RESTAURANT is situated near the RECEPTION AREA and offers bar snacks daily on its front terrace with lovely cane furniture and full restaurant cuisine in the evenings.  The food and wine are excellent and the staff friendly and courteous with an extremely good command of English.

The main old walled town of LAGOS (pronounced LARGOSH) has a maze of narrow-cobbled streets and squares filled with pavement café bars and restaurants.  After a light lunch you can meander through the towns narrow shopping lanes, or you may wish to return in the evening for some nightlife – there is plenty of choice to suit young or old alike !

The newly-built Marina is full of fantastic boats ranging from sports cruisers to ocean-going yachts.  Browse at your own pace or pop into one of the many trendy bars and do a spot of “people watching”.    The main beach in LAGOS, Meia Praia, has an uninterrupted 6 kilometres of white fine sand, try LINDA’S BAR  with its fabulous lunchtime menu or visit Praia De Dona Ana with its sandy coves and honeycombed sandstone stacks.

A forty minute drive into the interior will take you to the spectacular MONCHIQUE MOUNTAINS.   Drive through the beautiful scenery stopping at small spa villages on the way to the town of MONCHIQUE passing through Caldas de Monchique, the centuries old Roman Spa Town, and onwards to the highest peak to FOIA where on a clear day they say you can see from one end of the ALGARVE to the other !

The Golf.

Enough of descriptions of places – lets get back to what you’re really interested in – THE GOLF.

Don’t be fooled by the easy start of the Par 4 1^st hole, which gently slopes down to the green in front of your apartment, this is cleverly designed to clear away the cobwebs or perhaps the slight hangover from the previous evening!

By the time you reach the Par 3, 6^th, with its huge ravine carry you will be glad you packed those extra balls.   Save your lake balls for later, you have not been near water -  yet !  This is all to come after the turn from the 14^th onwards the infamous Par4, 17^th, is a delight – a sloping left to right fairway towards the twin lakes in front of your apartment.

Non-golfers watching from their own balconies spend many a sun-drenched hour perversely watching optimistic golfers fruitlessly searching for their balls along the rock-strewn lakeside.

But the agony can continue, after taking a drop, the approach shot has to carry (yes you’ve guessed it) a third lake right in front of the green !  What is golf if not a challenge ?
